Soil Conditioner
Soil conditioner can mean many things and can include some of the above products.
When I say soil conditioner, I mean a product with concentrated ammonium laureth sulfate
as the main ingredient, sometimes with some proprietary secret ingredients, although I tend
to stay away from the ones where I'm not allowed to know all of the ingredients. My un-
derstanding is that ammonium laureth sulfate is not toxic to the microbes, unlike sodium
laureth sulfate which has a bad reputation.
Both of them are used in shampoos and soaps. The former is quickly biodegradable and
functions as a soil aerator, allowing water and air to more easily get into the soil. When
mixed with other products at around ½ teaspoon per 1,000 square feet, it can also act to
help those other products get into the soil and stay on plant leaves. It's $25 for a quart.
