In-Depth Information
Summary
• We generally need to increase the often lacking diversity and number of microbes
in our soil food web because of low organic matter, insufficient water, pesticides
and chemical fertilizers, tilling, pollution and other toxins, while also fixing these
problems.
• Most inoculants are applied weekly, monthly or seasonally, especially during plant-
ing, high-stress situations and disease-prone times of the year.
• You can increase the diversity of your compost pile by adding handfuls of soil
from other ecosystems.
• You can culture your own Lactobacillus bacteria and experiment with spraying
them on plant leaves.
• Mycorrhizal fungi are among the most important microbes for plants, and an in-
oculant should be applied during planting when it's possible to get the spores on
the roots.
