The source-filter model tries to rebuild the two scenarios that are responsible for the
generation of the excitation signal by using two different signal generators (see
Fig. 7.7):

a noise generator for rebuilding unvoiced (noise-like) utterances, and
†
a pulse train generator for rebuilding voiced (periodic) utterances.
