In-Depth Information
In place of the old lock flight is the iconic 35m Falkirk Wheel of 2002, the world's first
rotating boat lift. With 35m arms, it is approached over an aqueduct and lowers boats in its
gondolas to New Port Downie. The total load of 1,800t takes just four minutes for the jour-
ney, driven by up to four of ten 7.5kW motors. A visitor centre describes this new landmark
structure and offers facilities including an exhibition centre, cafe and bar at what is now Scot-
land's most visited attraction.
Golden Jubilee Lock takes the canal down to join the Forth & Clyde Canal.
