The Middlewich Branch leads away from the main line .
Looking over the Top Flash and River Weaver to Winsford .
Oak trees on each side of the canal drop away as it runs out on to an embankment, carrying
it high across the Weaver valley, crossing the river itself on a tall aqueduct, which is incon-
spicuous from the canal.
Many of the bridges have been painted matt grey at some stage in their past, now peeling
to reveal the original red brickwork. A bridge above Church Minshull shows how the canal
is clinging to the side of the valley. The village itself lies way below, a community of timber-
