In-Depth Information
Beeston Castle from Wharton's Lock .
The bottom lock of the flight is by Moss Hall, where a stable is now a private house. There
are no more deep cuttings from here to Ellesmere Port, which may or may not be the reason
why the plant life in the canal improves. An embankment takes the canal on to the Moss Hill
Aqueduct over the fledgling River Weaver. During the Second World War there were plans
to make the river navigable from here for 100t barges and to replace the locks with barge lifts
so that they could continue up the canal to the West Midlands, but this never happened.
