The towpath bridge over the junction has an unusually wide bridge arch of 11m with two
courses of bricks overlain by sandstone slabs. All bridges on the canal are clearly named and
numbered and the aqueducts say which rivers are being crossed. Trent Aqueduct in stone car-
ries the canal over its river and another arch clears a mill tailrace as the canal starts up the
valley of the River Sow. Great Haywood Wharf has mellow red-brick warehouses but the
attention is drawn more to the tiny brick toll office on the other side of the canal with its iron-
lattice windows, now used as a craft shop.
