Why Is It Awesome?
This project will allow us to perform a fast tour of the general ideas for creaing a rigged
system and using it to create an animaion.
First, we'll have the opportunity to learn the basic ideas about rigging, by creaing a very
basic rig that can serve the purpose of creaing the walk-cycle animaion. This exercise will
use the two basic tools that are available, parening and constraining, and will also let us
discuss a bit about the whole mindset behind it.
Secondly, on the animaion part, we'll get a fast and clear overview of some basic concepts
to get started with, by using the structured method for animaion called pose-to-pose. We'll
also have enough ime as to discuss a few topics belonging to the more advanced aspects of
this topic.
It's important to noice that both rigging and animaion are huge ields by themselves, so
this chapter will only give a very brief overview that can help you get started, by having the
right ideas in mind from the very beginning.
Your Hotshot Objectives
We'll be performing six tasks to create our nice walk-cycle animaion, as follows:
1. Creaing the armature.
2. Armature setup.
3. Skinning.
4. Animaion keys.
5. Animaion breakdowns.
6. Animaion tweaks.
Mission Checklist
First of all, we need to copy the character.blend file from the "modeling a basic
humanoid character" project (from a sample chapter of the topic) to the directory holding
the files for the current one. Let's name the copied file walkcycle.blend , then open
Blender, and load it.
