Built in 1954 on the site of the Palazzo Reale stables that were destroyed by WWII
bombs, PAC was one of Milan's most significant examples of midcentury architec-
ture. It was itself destroyed by a Mafia bomb in 1993 and its rebuilding in 1996
was quixotically faithful to the original. Now it mounts experimental exhibitions in
all media. (PAC;

Giovanni Ceruti's extravagant Moorish museum was one of the first buildings
erected in the public park in 1838. It was built to house the collections of botanist
Giorgio Jan and naturalist Giuseppe de Cristoforis, which cover all sorts of things
from botany and mineralogy to geology and paleontology. Now its diorama dis-
plays are charmingly retro, but younger kids love it. (Natural History Museum; 02
