When Il Salumaio ( 02 7600 1123; www.ilsalumaiodimontenapoleone.it ; Via Monte Na-

poleone in 1957, there was an outcry from locals who thought a humble del-
icatessen would lower the tone of the exclusive neighbourhood. But the deli
opened and quickly wowed Milanese shoppers with its extravagant window
displays. It's now housed in the Bagatti Valsecchi palazzo.

If you ever wondered where James Bond gets his suits, head to Brioni ( 02

Gesù, the bespoke atelier where head tailor Mauro Stracci turns fabric into
pure sex appeal. In the atelier's studio you can see the labelled paper formes
of outfits worn by movie stars, celebrities and presidents. A cheaper off-the-
peg men's shop is at No. 3, and a women's shop at No. 4.

14-16; Tue-Sun) has gone on to transform our homes with more than 22,000
crafted utensils, many of which have been designed by the world's leading
architect-designers. Some of them now reside in the V&A in London and New
York's MoMA, but you can just pop down to the flagship store for their most
cutting-edge ranges.
