Dolce & Gabbana's shiny paean to excess will either enthral or appal depending on
your mood (and perhaps who's paying). The gold-themed bar, mirror-topped
tables and TV's in the toilets are worth a cocktail or two, but give the restaurant a
miss as style over substance only goes so far. (

It's Brazilian caipirinhas and chill-out in this fashionable corner bar. Once the
club of Milan's Gerachi fascists, this place attracts guppies (gay urban profession-
als) and a well-heeled Friday-night crowd. There's a small ground-floor bar, but
the real action takes place in the basement after 10pm. (

Reinventing Milan
The Rise of Mussolini
Benito Mussolini's political career began in Milan, and he swiftly moved from words to
action through his paramilitary Blackshirts. His promises of strength and national unity
had broad appeal, and by 1922 he was prime minister. San Siro stadium was built in
1926, combining Fascism's Rationalist modernity and Mussolini's fetish for the camper
side of Imperial Rome. Other former Fascist monuments include Stazione Centrale,
the Triennale, Palazzo dell'Arengario and the Armani shop on Via Manzotti.
