Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo
The epic building of Milan's cathedral necessitated the creation of a 'Factory' for
all operational activities and maintenance - the Fabbrica del Duomo. It oversaw
the Duomo's construction from 1387 until the last gate was inaugurated in 1965.
Today it continues the work of restoring and maintaining the cathedral. It's pos-
sible to visit the Fabbrica's marble quarries at Lago Mergozzo, near Lago Mag-
giore.
Top Tips
Hours for the treasury, crypt, baptistry and roof vary so check the website for details.
The €13 combination ticket for the roof terraces, baptistry and treasury is a good
deal.
It's quicker to ascend to the roof via the 165 steps rather than the tiny elevator, which
attracts a long queue.
From 4 November to Epiphany, the great Quadroni di San Carlo paintings depicting
scenes from the life of Saint Charles are displayed down the nave.
Take a Break
