Getting Around
Milan has an efficient integrated public transport system ( www.atm-mi.it ) of metro,
trams and buses, but when you're moving around the historical centre you'll prob-
ably find it more convenient to walk. Trams, despite the labyrinthine nature of their
routes, are actually a good way to see the city while covering more ground.
Tickets & Passes
Milan's public transport system is inexpensive and efficient. Metro, trams and buses all
use the same kind of ticket. You can only buy these tickets from metro stations, tobac-
conists or newsagents - never from the driver. On buses and trams it's the traveller's
responsibility to validate their ticket. If you're caught riding without a ticket that's been
clearly stamped, you will be fined. For ease of use and to avoid the hassle of validat-
ing tickets simply opt for single or multiday passes:
Basic ticket Valid for 90 minutes; €1.50
One-day ticket Valid for 24 hours; €4.50
Three-day ticket Valid for 72 hours; €8.25
