Design
Milan today is home to all the major design showrooms and the site of an endless
round of influential international design fairs, and continues to be a centre of
design education and publishing. Design here isn't merely functional (although the
modernist ideal of creating useful objects is always at its core); it is also suffused
with emotion: expressive, inventive, humorous and individual.
Who's Who
A visit to the Design Museum at the Triennale ( Click here ) is a wonderful way to
pay homage to the work of Italy's best and brightest. May of these called, or con-
tinue to call, Milan home. The names to watch out for include GiĆ² Ponti, Bruno
Munari, Piero Fornasetti, Enzo Mari, the Castiglioni brothers, Gaetano Pesce,
Mario Bellini, Gae Aulenti, Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini.
