The Gallery
The glass-and-steel Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II ( Click here ) is the direct pro-
genitor of the modern shopping mall. It is home to some of the oldest shops and
cafes in Milan, including historical Biffi ( Click here ), founded in 1867 by royal
pastry chef Paolo Biffi, and Savini , where Charlie Chaplin declared, 'I've never
eaten so well.'
The House of Telamons
Wander north to Via degli Omenoni to enjoy the marvellous giants holding up the
balcony of the Casa degli Omenoni (House of the Telamons), a 16th-century
artist's residence. The vigorous Michelangelesque giants with their bulging
muscles and bent backs became a reference for Milanese decorative architecture.
