Villa Olmo
VILLA, MUSEUM
Set grandly facing the lake amid Italianate gardens, the creamy facade of neoclas-
sical Villa Olmo is Como's major landmark. Built in 1728 by the Odescalchi family
(relatives of Pope Innocent XI) it now hosts blockbuster art shows in its sumptu-
ous Liberty-style interiors.

Funicolare Como-Brunate

Northeast along Como's waterfront, past Piazza Matteotti and the train station, is
the Como-Brunate cable car, which was built in 1894. It takes seven minutes to
reach hilltop

(720m), a quiet village offering splendid views. From Brun-
ate scale 143 steps further up to the
Faro Voltiano
. The lighthouseoffers an amaz-
ing bird's-eye view of the lake. The Como tourist office can provide a map of walks
around Brunate.
