Don't Miss
Palazzo Borromeo
Isola Bella took the name of Carlo III's wife, the
bella
Isabella, in the 17th century,
when its centrepiece,
Palazzo Borromeo
(adult/reduced €12.50/5.50)
, was built.
Presiding over 10 tiers of terraced gardens, the baroque palace contains stellar art-
works as well as Flemish tapestries and sculptures by Canova. Well-known guests
have included Napoleon and Josephine in 1797 (you can see the bed they slept in),
and Prince Charles and Princess Di in 1985.
