In-Depth Information
The menu is just a formality; dishes here come along without prior consultation.
Get ready for platters of gratined mussels, sardines in saôr (a sweet-and-sour
onion jam), whitebait fritters, anchovy-stuffed zucchini flowers, homemade fish
ravioli and crispy fried octopus. The lunchtime crowd of silver-haired, ties-off
businessmen doesn't seem in the usual hurry to get back to work. (

Fiera Milano
Milan's two fairgrounds (fiera) play host to an endless round of trade fairs as well as
the biannual fashion blockbusters. Massimiliano Fuksas' brilliantly engineered Fiera
Milano exhibition space was built on the Agip oil refinery in Rho-Pero, around 40
minutes out of town by metro. In action since 2006, its billowing glass-and-steel sail
floats over 1.4km of halls, capable of holding up to half a million visitors. The city's
historical fairgrounds just northwest of Parco Sempione are the site of the CityLife re-
development, but smaller fairs are still held at the remaining pavilions, known as Fi-
era Milano City.
The most high-profile fair is the Furniture Fair (Salone Internazionale del Mobile)
held annually in April. It attracts around 300,000 visitors and creates city-wide may-
hem. For travellers, proximity to the red (M1) metro line is really all that matters. If
you're coming to town, be sure to book ahead for everything.
