Palazzo d'Arte
West of the pond looms the enormous Rationalist Palace of Art (aka Triennale
di Milano), designed by Giovanni Muzio in 1932-33 to host the burgeoning
Triennale exhibitions. Poke your head through the garden grills for a look at
de Chirico's bizarre sculpture Fontana dei Bagni Misteriosi (Fountain of Mys-
terious Baths; 1973).
Torre Branca
Giò Ponti's spindly 1933 steel tower ( 02 331 41 20; lift €4; Cadorna) , built in
just two months for a Triennale exhibition, provides a fantastic 108m-high
viewing platform over the park. Operating hours are complex: it's open for
blocks of a few hours at a time, generally between 9.30am or 10.30am and
midnight; check the the website for details. Take the lift up at sunset, or at
night to watch city lights twinkle, and lord it over the crowd below in Just
