Introduction to DMO
Today's business world requires speed. From smart phone applications to sub-second
Internet searches, users have easy access to a wealth of external information. IT de-
partments are being pressed to meet similar expectations to provide super-fast access
to information from disparate internal and external sources with less infrastructure
and smaller budgets than ever before. Faster reporting solutions, including real-time
data access, can enable companies to respond to an ever-changing business climate in
real time. As with most other innovations, early adopters of new technology will see the
greatest gains from the ability to quickly respond to such a challenging and fast-paced
business environment.
Enter SAP HANA, which replaces the traditional relational database with an in-memory
solution that has revolutionized the way we store data and architect reporting solutions. SAP
HANA is the right solution for every company because it provides the agility and processing
power needed to turn a company with solid performance into an industry leader. The busi-
ness case for SAP HANA is covered at length in Section 2.1 . First, let's cover the strategies
and tactics for moving an existing SAP BW system on any database to SAP HANA. We will
explore the differences between the DMO process and the other options that are available.
