General prerequisites
In order to use the DMO process for your SAP BW on HANA migration, you will need to
have at least Software Update Manager (SUM) version 1.0 SP9. This version of SUM has
the added benefit of including a new user interface for DMO based on SAPUI5. This means
the DMO user interface will be accessed via web browser and will allow you to avoid the
necessity of logging in to the application server in order to check log files.
Some SAP BW systems may have been configured as a dual-stack implementation, which
means they combined both SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP and JAVA with one
SAP system ID. This configuration was designed to reduce the total cost of ownership by
allowing customers to save the expense of having separate database and application server
hardware. Unfortunately, DMO only works with ABAP systems, so if your system is con-
figured as a dual-stack implementation, you will have to perform a dual-stack split before
the DMO option will be available to you.
The dual-stack split
Check SAP Note 1816819 for guidance on how to split a dual-stack
implementation.
As of SUM release 1.0 SP 12, SAP ASE may be used as the target database for your migra-
tion, but the target system must be SAP_BASIS 740 SP09. Always make sure you check the
SAP Product Availability Matrix (PAM) for source and target database version requirements
prior to beginning the DMO process.
The following section was created using the General Preparation section of the Comerit
DMO runbook. This runbook was created as part of the world's two largest DMO migration
projects. In this example, the database was Oracle-based, so any steps which refer to Oracle
may need to be adjusted if your database is not on Oracle.
