Continued support
The cost of continuing support for SAP BW on HANA should be approximately the same
as the support costs for a traditional BW system because the administration tasks are con-
ceptually similar. However, the administrative tasks are also generally faster in HANA be-
cause they leverage the speed of the HANA environment for their execution.
One Basis person will be needed for system administration and monitoring for every four
or five environments. In addition, one part-time resource is required for security access and
role administration, with the level of effort dependent upon the number of active concur-
rent users and named users.
The following tasks must be delegated and assigned to the support personnel:
User and role maintenance
Security maintenance
Backup and disaster recovery monitoring and compliance
Load balancing, monitoring, and hardware maintenance
Software patches and notes for HANA, BW, and other software components
Cleanup of near-line storage, archiving, and log files
Transports, table copies, system copies, and data copies
Periodic system upgrades
