Budgeting
When budgeting for a DMO project, you have to consider numerous factors. Infrastructure
and licensing may seem obvious, but do not overlook the need for interim hardware and li-
censing for the PCA tool if you plan based on a downtime-minimized migration approach.
In addition, increased support costs in relation to any parallel run of production should be
included in the budgeting.
Sufficient funds must also be allocated to allow for training both the project team and the
support team. The project team must be trained before the project starts, and the sustainment
team must be trained and available for integration and testing during the QA and production
migrations. Finally, the salary and training costs for the sustainment team after the migration
must be considered.

Training
Training for the BW and HANA Basis support team members should be completed before
the project starts. Often, training for these team members will be completed while the hard-
ware is being installed during the final months before the migration project officially begins.
The project manager should schedule time during the hardware installation phase of the pro-
ject for training the Basis personnel.
Pick the right people!
Too many projects fail because the company chooses the people that
are available instead of choosing the best people for the job. Remem-
ber to plan far enough in advance that the right team members can be
allocated as they roll off their current projects.
In general, companies can expect to spend $3,000 to $6,000 for official SAP training courses
for each team member. Some of these courses can be taken online, but for courses that are
not available through a remote connection, the costs of travel and expenses to the training
