The persistence layer is the disk that provides system security and redundancy in the event
of memory failures. For this reason, the size of the persistence layer must not be underes-
timated, especially considering the comparatively low cost of disk space.
CPU
The number of CPUs required can be estimated using the equation in Figure 2.8.

The number of CPUs determines the number of cores needed for the BW on HANA imple-
mentation. To calculate this, find the maximum number of active concurrent users from the
early watch report and multiply that number by 0.2.

SAP BW on HANA automated sizing tool
The SAP BW on HANA automated sizing tool is part of the SAP NetWeaver BW Migra-
tion Cockpit for SAP HANA. SAP Note 1909597 contains instructions and the ABAP code
required for installing the migration cockpit. The migration cockpit must be installed and
activated using the SE38 transaction code in the SAP front end. Once the migration cockpit
has been installed and activated, executing the program from the ABAP editor will open
the cockpit as shown in Figure 2.9.
