Sizing the migration
There are several methods available for estimating the required size of a HANA system. The
most common methods include the T-shirt model, the rule-of-thumb approach, and the SAP
BW on HANA automated sizing tool.
Important note on the SAP Quick Sizer
The SAP Quick Sizer provides another method for estimating the re-
quired hardware sizes in HANA, but the Quick Sizer is only appropri-
ate for use when estimating the size of a greenfield BW on HANA im-
plementation, so this method is not examined in detail in this topic.
2.3.1
T-shirt sizing model
The T-shirt sizing model is meant to provide a very rough idea of the hardware that will be
required for a BW on HANA migration, so this method is only appropriate for providing a
basic idea of the hardware needs in a project. After deciding to move forward with a DMO
migration, the SAP BW on HANA automated sizing tool should be used to provide the most
accurate estimate of your current and future hardware needs. Figure 2.5 provides the T-shirt
model for those who want basic information about their hardware needs when migrating to
HANA.
