2.2.2
Medium projects
Migrations of less than 10 TB (before migration) with medium complexity are considered
medium projects. Medium project teams must consist of the core team plus one test team
for each major business area. A separate test team should be staffed to provide general test-
ing not specific to a major business area. Projects of medium size or larger should also staff
a project advisor with experience in large-scale migrations to assist with problem resolu-
tion during the project, although this position is usually not a full-time resource (see Figure
2.3).

The total project duration in this example was 18 weeks. This company had a four-system
landscape with more than 400 DSOs and more than 600 InfoCubes. Business personnel
tested the query performance of the BOBJ reports, while technical testers executed test
plans for data reconciliation and process chains.

Large and extra-large projects
BW migrations with more than 10 TB of data with high complexity are categorized as large
(or even extra-large) projects. The same principles applied in medium projects apply to
large projects. The differences lie in the project duration, size, and number of test teams.
Again, each business area needs to have a dedicated test team. These test teams for large
projects usually consist of two functional testers, as well as a test lead for HANA and an-
other for the BW system.
The staffing example in Figure 2.4 was used in a migration of a 38 TB BW system with
high complexity. In this project, more than 1,300 data stores, more than 1,700 InfoCubes,
