Landscape simplification and real-time reporting
With SAP HANA as your SAP BW database, you can develop or consolidate your non-BW
data warehousing applications in the same database as SAP BW. SAP BW 7.40 enables the
cross-consumption of non-BW data in BW via Open ODS Views and CompositeProviders.
It enables consumption of BW data in native HANA by automatically generating model-
ing views on all BW objects. These views can also be accessed directly from SAP Busi-
nessObjects (BOBJ) tools such as Analysis, Design Studio, BO Explorer, and Lumira. Web
Intelligence and Dashboards still require either BEx queries from InfoProviders built from
calculation views, or the construction of universes through the Information Design Tool.
SAP BW on HANA provides your company with the tools needed to respond to the chan-
ging business environment at a moment's notice. With SAP Landscape Transformation
(SLT), data can be loaded to your company's BW on HANA system in real time. SLT al-
lows for reporting on your business needs as soon as transactions are completed in the sys-
tem. There is no longer any need to wait for nightly data loads to understand the business
of the previous day.
With Smart Data Access (SDA), smaller data volumes can be read directly in HANA mod-
eling views or CompositeProviders without ever persisting it in SAP BW or native HANA.
This functionality enables your SAP BW on HANA to become a federated data warehouse,
thus eliminating the need to persist all data directly in HANA. With the advent of dynamic
tiering, non-essential data can be persisted in cheaper storage (such as Sybase IQ) and read
into HANA on demand (like SAP NLS for BW).
