Trust, but verify!
After advising all users to log out of the system, you can use transac-
tion code AL08 to see which users are still logged in to the system.
To verify that all jobs have either finished or have been suspended,
you can use transaction code SM37 to open the B ACKGROUND J OB
O VERVIEW .
6.1.14
Offline database backup
You are almost ready for the actual migration. As the final step of the pre-processing phase,
you will be prompted to perform a backup of the system. Go ahead and perform a full, off-
line backup of the existing database before proceeding to the next step.
BACKUP REQUIRED!
If you are migrating your production environment, you MUST per-
form a full offline backup before beginning the execution phase of
the DMO process. If the migration process fails at this stage, you
will need the offline backup in order to restore the production envir-
onment, so do not skip this step! Failure to properly protect the in-
tegrity of the production environment has led to termination of employment for many
project managers over the years. Do not put yourself in the position of failing to have
a valid backup to restore in case of a catastrophic failure in the migration process.
6.1.15
Splitting off ASCS
After you have completed the offline backup of the existing database, the execution phase
of the migration can begin. Proceed with the execution phase until you are prompted to
switch the ABAP Central Service (ASCS) instance from the Primary Application Server
(PAS), as shown in Figure 6.9.
