of shallow angular depressions a few centimetres diameter and deep is typical of some granite
(and sandstone) coasts. It is not due to physical abrasion, to the impact of cobbles and blocks car-
ried by the waves, for there is no distributional relationship between the pecking and either expo-
sure to wave attack or to availability of coarse debris.
