and 8.2b). The steepened slope is not everywhere disposed in horizontal zones, but rather follows the
hill-plain or rock-soil junction (Fig. 8.2c). Flared slopes attain their maximum development (that is,
greatest degree of overhang and length of steep walls) in two topographic situations. They are well-
developed on the points of spurs, as, for example, at Ucontitchie Hill, Eyre Peninsula, South
Australia, and also in broad fracture-controlled embayments, for example, Wave Rock, located on
