Mason Neck State Park:
Kanes Creek
Popular with birders, this hike focuses on the Kanes Creek area, an offshoot of Belmont Bay. Look for
bald eagles, herons, and osprey on your hike, especially as you get closer to the water.

Finding the trailhead: From I-495, take I-95 south toward Richmond. Take exit
166A/Fairfax County Parkway toward Fort Belvoir. Turn right at Telegraph Road,
which, after about 1 mile, will turn slightly left and become Old Colchester Road. Turn
left at Gunston Road and follow Gunston for about 3 miles to High Point Road. Turn
right onto High Point Road and drive about 1 mile to the park entrance gate. After enter-
ing the park, follow the road to the first small parking lot on your left at the entrance to
