Start in the parking lot for Lock 6. Follow the trail around the lockhouse and cross two
small bridges.

Turn left onto the C&O Canal towpath.

Arrive at Lock 5. Cross the bridge on the left for restrooms on the left and a drinking foun-
tain on the right. Cross back over the bridge and bear left to cross the bridge to continue
on the path. Follow the path to Chain Bridge.

Arrive at Chain Bridge. There will be a ramp to go up to the bridge and a pedestrian walk-
way. Walk across the bridge for views of the Potomac River and the lower part of Great
Falls.

Return to the towpath.

Rejoin the towpath. Follow this to Fletchers Cove.

Return the same way from Fletchers Cove—remaining on the towpath instead of crossing
Chain Bridge again.
