C&O Canal: Lock 6 to Fletch-
ers Cove
This shady trail follows the C&O Canal towpath along the canal to Fletchers Cove on the Potomac
River. Stop along the way to cross Chain Bridge to Virginia, where you will enjoy nice views of Little
Great Falls, the lower portion of Great Falls.
Distance: 4.3 miles out and back
Approximate hiking time: 2.5 hours
Difficulty: Moderate
Trail surface: Smooth, but a little stony in places; can be a little muddy after it rains

Finding the trailhead: From I-495, take the exit for Clara Barton Parkway/Glen
Echo. Follow Clara Barton Parkway south. You will pass the Lock 10 and Lock 8 park-
