National Arboretum: East
Side
The eastern side of the National Arboretum features an Asian collection, conifers, and dogwoods. In
summer, pink and white crape myrtles are in full flower, and winter brings the bright red berries of holly
plants.

Finding the trailhead: By car: Take Constitution Avenue east past the Capitol Build-
ing. At Maryland Avenue, bear left and follow this to Bladensburg Road. Drive about 1
mile to R Street and turn right. The entrance gates will be about 2 blocks ahead. Park in
the main lot just inside the gates and near the visitor center. Via Metro: Take the Blue or
Orange line to Stadium-Armory. From here take the B2 bus and get off at Bladensburg
Road and Rand Place. Walk 1 block back to R Street, turn left and walk 2 blocks to the
