Theodore Roosevelt Island
Any talk about hiking around the Washington, D.C. area has to start at Theodore Roosevelt Island. The
entire island is a memorial to the twenty-sixth president, an avid conservationist and the founder of the
national park system.

Finding the trailhead: By car: The parking lot is only accessible from the George
Washington Parkway heading north. Just after the Roosevelt Bridge, look for the park-
ing area on the right. Via Metro: Take the Blue or the Orange line to Rosslyn. From the
station, walk along Moore Street to 19th Street. Turn right and then left on Lynn Street
and follow the path to the right, which leads to a bridge crossing the George Washington
Parkway. This will bring you to the parking lot for Roosevelt Island. The trailhead is at
the south end of the parking lot by the pedestrian bridge. GPS: N38 53.860' / W77
