In-Depth Information
Systematic use of the defect closure rule provides a quantitative expression of
the well-known generalization that contraction dominates defect closure in rodents
whereas closure in humans is shared both by scar formation and contraction. Rough
estimates of extent of contraction in peripheral nerves and in the conjunctiva were
also described.
The use of the rule was illustrated using data showing changes in closure mode
with development of an amphibian model. It can be used to analyze, in a self-con-
sistent manner, a large variety of data obtained by independent investigators.
