H ISTORY OF DISCOVERY OF THE
C HINLE G ROUP
The Petrified Forest National Park
encompasses over 90,000 acres of
spectacular badlands in Navajo and Apache
counties, northeastern Arizona ( 129, 130 )
amphibious or semiaquatic forms, but
also including some terrestrial, mammal-
like dicynodonts and cynodonts, which
ultimately gave rise to the mammals,
and also for some of the very earliest
dinosaurs.
