8.5 CCII-based Realization of Fuzzy Functions
There has been lot of interest on applying the ideas of fuzzy set theory and fuzzy
logic in various areas like process control, robotics, expert systems etc. Conse-
quently, attention has also been focused by a number of researchers in
implementing the basic building blocks of fuzzy systems by analog current mode
electronic circuits. Thus, CCs have been the prominent building blocks whose
applications in realizing fuzzy member functions and Max/Min circuits and a
number of realizations have been advanced in literature. In this section, we outline
some important contributions made in this area. Analog implementations of fuzzy
operators are expected to provide the advantages of lower power supply voltages,
high frequency operation and smaller chip area as compared to fuzzy information
processing through the use of digital computers.
Liu et al. in [ 2 ] propose CCII+ based fuzzy membership function and Max/Min
circuits which are shown here in Figs. 8.17 and 8.18 respectively. The operation of
circuit of Fig. 8.17 can be explained as follows:
