Hill Country State Natural
Area: Wilderness and Twin
Peaks Trails
Sections of the Wilderness Trail combined with the Twin Peaks Trail is hiking at its best. Go through
canyons, up and down rocky hills, and across seasonal creeks to see some of the best scenery in central
Texas. The small loop around the Twin Peaks, which are more than 1,800 feet high, has spectacular
views. This hike is not recommended for young children.
Distance: 3 miles; interconnecting loops
Approximate hiking time: 2 hours
Difficulty: Easy except for a few steep inclines, which are challenging
Trail surface: Dirt, sand, and loose rock
Best seasons: Sept through June
Other trail users: Equestrians, mountain bikers, dog walkers
Canine compatibility: Leashed dogs permitted
Land status: State natural area; Texas Parks & Wildlife Department
Fees and permits: Fee required, or use the State Parks Pass
Schedule: Dawn to dusk daily

Special considerations: Potable water is not available in the park. Bring drinking water.
Trails may be subject to closure during wet conditions. Public hunts are held during
December and January and the park is closed to the general public. Check the park's cal-
endar for access restrictions. Call the park for specific dates. There is no electricity
