et al. 1988 ). At ODP site 693 diatom and mud and clay of the Miocene age were
recovered (Barker et al. 1988 ). Due to this age control and sample proof, we
interpret Unit III as a deposit of full-glacial times. Table 1 summarizes the seismic
characteristics and major paleooceanographic events of each seismic unit.
