The Graphic Styles panel allows you to create, save, and apply graphics styles. A graphic
style is a collection of attributes that can be applied to a layer, sublayer, group, or object.
The Appearance panel allows you to apply and manage multiple attributes of an object.
You can apply fills, strokes, opacity, blending mode, effects, and other attributes to ob-
jects, layers, groups, or graphic styles. The panel makes it easy to apply, edit, duplicate,
restack, or remove attributes.
Opening Graphics
In addition to opening Illustrator documents, you can also open graphic files created in
different formats, such as TIFF, JPEG, GIF, and PNG. You open a graphic file the same
way you open documents in Illustrator. When you open a graphic file, a tab appears across
the top of the Document window, which you can click to display. If you need to manage,
organize, or find graphic files, Adobe Bridge is the way to go. With Adobe Bridge, you
can search for the graphic files that you want to edit, and then open them in Illustrator.
Open a Graphic Image
Click the
File
menu, and then click
Open
to display all file types in the file list of
the Open dialog box.
Click the
Files of Type
(Win) or
Enable
(Mac) list arrow, and then select a
graphic format.
Navigate to the drive or folder location with the image you want to open.
Click the graphic file you want to open.
Timesaver
Press and hold the Shift key to select multiple contiguous files to open
in the Open dialog box.
Click
Open
