In-Depth Information
It's on the quiet Ancon hill - a good place to take a walk, but for dining variety you
will need a taxi.

fast US$95; )
Perched atop Cerro Ancón and surrounded by tropical flora and
fauna, La Estancia is a small cement apartment building converted into a tranquil and
friendly B&B. Rooms are plain, uncluttered and clean. Breakfasts are excellent, best en-
joyed on the patio while gazing upon the Puente de las Américas.
Albrook Inn

)
Set amid lush greenery and removed from city chaos, this lodging near Al-
brook airport aspires toward country inn but feels a bit lackluster and impersonal. Motel-
style rooms have modern decor and flat-screen TVs but could be roomier. A small
kidney-shaped pool spruces up the garden. Ideal for an early morning domestic flight.

They say there are only two lodgings overlooking the canal: one is the
prison holding Noriega, the other is this chain hotel. Though reminiscent of a retirement
community in Panama City, Florida, it's well run and a good value, with causeway ac-
cess and a huge swimming pool. Rooms boast private balconies overlooking the Puente
de las Américas.
BEST TAKE-OUT
Panama City is not big on take-out, but any of these goodies could satisfy an urge
to brown bag a picnic to the Cinta Costera, Parque Recreativo Omar or Casco An-
tiguo, for US$10 or less:
