In-Depth Information
Consequently, despite a certain degree of progress recorded in the
richest countries, pollution affects the entire world on an increasingly
global scale.
Climate change due to CO 2 emissions caused by the use of fossil fuels
has become one of the main risks for the future.
This change, which affects the entire planet, is also a symptom of
globalisation.
Unfortunately, globalisation, which has been until now mainly
economic and financial, has been of little help in collective resolution of
the problems affecting our planet. Energy and the environment are
global issues and the solutions to be implemented must be managed
through international governance.
The threats faced will be analysed in the next two chapters. They show
that, despite its successes, the current economic model is not sustainable
and that radical changes in lifestyles as well as in energy production
and utilisation conditions will be necessary.
