A monitoring system has many different parts. Dickson ( 2013 ) decomposes monitoring
systems into the functional components depicted in Figure 17.1 . A measurement flows
through a pipeline of steps. Each step receives its configuration from the configuration base
and uses the storage system to read and write metrics and results.
