nection systems of transregional interest constitute continuous natural areas that, on the one hand,
are connected to the Appenine backbone and on the other, are more or less spread throughout the
hill territory until they reach the coast. Modeled on the structure of mountainous systems, they are
therefore determined by two long swaths, one along the Umbrian/Marche Appenine backbone, and
the other along the Marche backbone, which come together near the Sibillini mountains massif. In
general, they are quite extensive in the high-hill areas and gradually decline near the coast, where
they are limited to the riparian zone
