assessed in relation to the role that new forms of governance can play in facilitating
sustainability transitions (Lošťák et al ., this volume). Chapter 12 considers the role of
transdisciplinarity in establishing future pathways for regional transition, describing the
development of a process for identifying 'transition pathways' (Pinto-Correia et al .b, this
volume). We conclude the topic with a synthesis of conceptual lessons learned (Darnofer et
al. , Chapter 13, this volume), and of empirical findings and challenges for future research
(Sutherland et al. c, Chapter 14, this volume).
