In-Depth Information
Finally, transitions towards multifunctionality of HNVF are reflected in the three cases
in respect of: (i) a search for place-based solutions to balanced territorial development (with
lesser polarized distributions of protection- and production-oriented landscapes in rural
areas, and lesser impacts from the latter on environment, local economies and
communities); and (ii) through a search for new conceptions of farming and farming
identities in rural areas. Some success in achieving these objectives could be observed,
particularly in the French case, thereby confirming that HNVF has the potential to become
a key concept in the European model of agriculture through its post-productivist and
multifunctional characteristics, its contribution to the diversity and sustainability of rural
areas, and through the conservation of biodiversity.
