Given the continued increases in the prevalence of obesity in the United States,
there is a clear need for programs to educate and motivate persons to make health-
ier lifestyle choices and to establish environments which support these choices. 100
Effective public health programs to reduce obesity should combine policies, pro-
grams, and supportive environments created through the combined activities of
health-care agencies, government, media, business and industry, communities,
schools, families, and individuals. 100
