In 2006, the Foshan Stadium in Foshan, China was completed. The stadium, built for
the 12 th Guangdong Province Sports Meeting, has a diameter of 330 meters and seats
40 000 spectators (Figure 1-27). At the time of this writing it has the world's largest
retractable roof, enabling the playing field to be completely covered in a few minutes.
The structures use a combination of PTFE/glass and PVC/polyester membranes. The
architect was gmp international GmbH and the engineer was Schlaich Bergermann
und Partner.

Also in 2006 the courtyard of a medieval castle in Kufstein, Austria was covered by a
retractable membrane made of PTFE-coated PTFE fabric known as TENARA,
