In-Depth Information
By focusing solely on events, the human underpinnings of crime were left
largely unaffected. When we shift the maps' focus from crime events to incarcera -
tion events, strikingly different patterns become visible. The geography of prison
differs in important ways from the geography of crime. Diffused and dispersed
across the city, crime happens in many different places. But the people who are
convicted and imprisoned for urban crimes are often quite densely concentrated
geographically.
